-Mohegans keep their sights on Wisconsin

The East Coast gaming interest who wants to build an $808 million mega-casino in Kenosha is keeping their sights on Wisconsin.

A February 22, 2008 story in the Milwaukee Business Journal reported that the Mohegan remain committed to the Kenosha project and are not backing away from building their proposed casino in Wisconsin. Mohegan officials told the Milwaukee Business Journal that they have already spent approximately $9 million on the project and that they will continue to provide financing for the proposal.

Keep in mind, if this casino is approved it would be the largest between Las Vegas and Atlantic City.

The Mohegan are in the middle of an aggressive expansion strategy to become a national gaming chain. In addition to their proposal in Kenosha, they also want to build massive mega-casinos in Massachusetts, New York, Kansas, Atlantic City and Washington.

Wisconsin doesn’t need a Las Vegas style casino from a national gaming chain. Wisconsin gaming laws were intended to benefit Wisconsin tribes, not gaming interests from the East Coast.
