The Mohegan’s choice of business partners has become a bit problematic. A recent article from the Cape Cod Times in Massachusetts reviewed several questionable partnerships the Mohegan Gaming Corporation formed in their pursuit to expand their gaming empire.
According to the article, several of the Mohegan’s partners have questionable pasts.
The Mohegan faced intense scrutiny last month during a hearing in Massachusetts where legislators raised concerns with the Mohegan and their management deal with the developers of the Mohegan Sun. The deal was criticized for being too lucrative for the developers and taking money away from tribal members.
The article examined their partnership with the developer for their proposed casino in Massachusetts. According to the article, even though the developer has been sued on several occasions for swindling money out of investors on gambling deals, the Mohegan continue their partnership to develop the casino.
And finally, the article looked at the Mohegan’s business dealings in Wisconsin and their partnership with indicted developer Dennis Troha. Troha and his close associate John Erickson were indicted in 2007 by the federal government. According to a plea agreement, a group including Dennis Troha and John Erickson were involved in a conspiracy to provide campaign contributions to candidates that supported Indian gaming in Kenosha, Wisconsin

It’s clear the Mohegan’s partners have messy pasts.
Do we really want this group running an $800 million casino in Wisconsin?
Who is really going to benefit?
If the Mohegan Gaming Corporation is able to build their proposed casino in Kenosha, they will be able to take up to a quarter of a billion dollars out of Wisconsin and back to Connecticut. Is that what we really want?
