   - Mohegan's commercial gaming plans push forward

The Mohegan Gaming Corporation made news again this past week as they continued to move forward with their aggressive expansion strategy and plans to become a national gaming chain.

Last week, members of the Mohegan Gaming Corporation gave testimony before members of the Massachusetts legislature on a bill that would allow commercial casinos to be built in the state. The Mohegan want to build a $1 billion Las Vegas style-casino in Massachusetts.

According to press reports of the hearing, the Mohegan reiterated their intentions of becoming a commercial gaming operation.

From the article...

" 'A lot of Tuesday's discussion centered on Native American deals and how they work,' Bozsum said. And while the Mohegan Gaming Authority is interested in building a resort casino in Massachusetts, Bozsum reiterated that the deal would be strictly commercial in nature.

" 'We are a tribe, but we are looking at an opportunity as a commercial business,' he said. 'We are not bringing in a reservation.' "

In addition, the Mohegan moved further along with their efforts to expand their casino empire.

A while back we told you that the Mohegan were interested in building a casino in Atlantic City. It seems that may soon be a reality. According to news reports, the Mohegan have indicated that the Tropicana could be potential property for the expansion of its gaming empire.

The Mohegan are an East Coast commercial gaming operation. They are no different from MGM, Harrah’s, or Trump casinos. Are these the type of gaming operations we want in Wisconsin?

Wisconsin gaming laws are intended to benefit Wisconsin tribes, not commercial gaming interests from the East Coast.
