   - Mohegan moving forward with plans to become national gaming chain

As we’ve told you previously, the Mohegan Gaming Corporation of Connecticut is pursuing an aggressive expansion strategy to become a national gaming chain. In addition to their plan to build an $880 million dollar off-reservation casino in Kenosha, Wisconsin, they are looking to build massive casinos in: Washington, Massachusetts, Atlantic City, New York and Kansas.

Here’s the latest news on the Mohegan’s plans to become a national gaming chain…

In Kansas, the Mohegan have partnered with a commercial gaming company from Las Vegas to develop and build a “Mohegan Sun-style” casino in Wyandotte County http://wisconsingamingforwisconsin.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/mohegankansascasino.pdf

According to recent news reports, the Mohegan proposal was one of three proposals that received local approval and will be submitted to Kansas Lottery Commission for further review. One developer will be chosen to build the casino in Wyandotte County. http://www.kansascitykansan.com/articles/2007/12/14/news/news1.txt

In Massachusetts, the Mohegan are proposing to build a $1 billion casino. Other mega-casino corporations, including Harrah’s Entertainment of Las Vegas, are also interested in constructing new casinos in Massachusetts. The groups, including the Mohegan, will have the opportunity to testify before Massachusetts state legislators at an upcoming hearing on gambling.

We will continue to keep you updated on the Mohegan Gaming Corporation’s expansion plans. In particular, their plans to bring Las Vegas-style casinos to Wisconsin and take up to a quarter of a billion dollars out of our state and back to Connecticut.

Wisconsin gaming laws were intended to benefit Wisconsin tribes, not gaming interests from the East Coast.
